  • Transportation, Western Main Road: For a trip which normally takes 20 minutes, motorist should anticipate at least a 2 hour to 3 hour delay--in some instances it may be more than 6 hours--in and out of the Chaguaramas peninsula, during peak periods, as: The Western Main Road, from West Mall, West Moorings, to the Kayak Centre, just past Tembladora Point in Chaguaramas, is a 5.59km stretch, a bottleneck heading east to west, with on one lane in and another out; The roadway varies in width from 6.67 meters to 8.3 meters and it carries mixed traffic with frontage access, to houses, shops and businesses, with loading and offloading of goods, gradients, bends, roadside parking, as well as, side roads, bus stops and pedestrian crossings whilst vehicles progress at max speeds between 30-40mph; The estimated carrying capacity of the road, at best, is around 2,400 vehicles per hour otherwise around 1,500 vehicles per hour; the average vehicle occupancy rate in Trinidad & Tobago, estimated in 1996, is 2.7; and the CDA estimates that weekend visitors to the Boardwalk exceed 25,000--on some occasion, conservative police visitor estimates exceed 40,000 on the peninsula--or 12,500 per weekend day. This is the equivalent of 4,629 vehicles destined to the Boardwalk, alone per day.

  • Parking: in proximity of the boardwalk parking can be a challenge during peak periods, especially on holidays and weekends; parking is permitted at the Williams Bay Car Park, Tembladora, at the south eastern end of the boardwalk, near the CDA Estate Police Post, at the western end, i.e., near Pier 1, including paid car park across the street on the boardwalkˈs northern fringe and at other locations on the peninsula or as directed by the CDA Police Officers. Along the Western Main Road from Tembladora for 5 kilometers westward is a No Parking Zone.
